North Wins D9 Wrestling All-star Match

  

ST. MARYS – A smaller than usual turnout of senior wrestlers resulted in only nine bouts for the fourth annual District 9 All-Star Match in the St. Marys Area High School Tuesday night, with the North edging the South 15-12.

 

Only six schools were represented, with all but two of the competitors hailing from DuBois, Ridgway, Bradford or Clarion.

 

Wayne Fordoski, who is stepping down after 31 years as St. Marys coach, was in the corner for the North’s first win in the post-season event.

 

Rob Sintobin of Clarion was the South coach.

Dirk Cowburn earned the all-time wrestling wins record for Coudersport High School, surpassing Coach Wright’s prior mark of 127 (1996-2000).  Dirk went 5-0 on the day (132-8 carreer to date), winning the championship at 160 pounds with 5 pins: 0:24, 1:16, 0:28, 0:15 and 0:19. His first win of the day against Marvess Rosiak of Lackawanna trail – a pin in 0:24 - gave Dirk win # 128.
